It’s July. That means it time to celebrate Independence Day and to welcome our new Pack Theme!
Hi everyone! Mr. Maloney here for The Cubmaster Minute presented by Pack 457 in Zelienople, PA. Today, we’re talking about our July Pack theme. This month, we’re focusing on the first three words of the Scout Oath
“On My Honor”
Every week we start out our meetings with these words and I suspect that some nights some of you just sort of mumble through them without giving them much thought. But what is honor?
The Scout Handbook says that honor is loyalty to high ideals. Webster’s Dictionary uses words like: ‘good name, reputation, excellence of character, high moral worth, nobleness, integrity, uprightness, and trustworthiness’ in its definition.
Your honor is not something to take lightly; it goes to the core of who and what you are. You say “on my honor” when you truly believe in something and pledge to hold ourselves to that ideal. If you have honor, everyone knows it and they can tell by your actions. If you don’t have it… well that is equally as obvious.
The idea of honor goes back long before Cub Scouting. Even our Founding Fathers thought about their honor when they declared their independence from Britain. That decision was written down in the Declaration of Independence which ends with the phrase:
