The following changes have been made to the Pinewood Derby Rules and Event between the 2021 and 2022 races:
Races & Eligibility
- Clarified the in-person participation requirement to allow an exception for Scouts who are sick or are required to quarantine due to the pandemic.
- Reinstated of The Open Invitational Race.
Rules
- Car Design and Construction Guidelines: No material changes to the rules.
- Race Day: Removed rules implemented in 2021 to address COVID-19 pandemic response.
- Minor edits were made to better organize and streamline the rules.
Race Weekend
Updated the Race Day schedule of events to align with the typical event schedule.
Awards
- Reinstated the Speed Awards Limit. Scouts winning Speed Awards in the Pack Finals are not eligible to earn the Speed Awards in their Den.
- Updated that selection process for the “Coolest Car” awards. These were selected via online survey in 2021 but will be selected by in-person secret ballot in 2022.
- Reinstated the awards for The Open Invitational and separated The Open Invitational’s Speed and Design Awards into Youth and Adult categories
Introduced “Most Fuel Efficient” awards for the slowest average time in the Den and The Open Invitational races.(This change was rolled back on February 7, 2022)- Introduced The Cubmaster’s Award Design Award.
RULE CHANGES
ADDITIONAL CHANGES TO THE RACE WEEKEND, REGISTRATION, AND RACE DAY RULES MAY BE MADE UP TO ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE START OF RACE WEEKEND.
